How I Became Tastefully “Extra”

While it’s no secret that I love being the life OF the party, I discovered while still in high school that I really prefer to bring life TO the party.

My sister and I spent many, many hours assisting our mother as she created dreamy events for her clients—from college homecoming alumni gatherings to full-scale wedding receptions for 500 guests. Every step she took, we followed—usually toting fabric, silver or glassware. We learned how to arrange flowers, how to properly set a table and yes, Lord, how to create volume and levels on a table. I don’t think I ever would have guessed it then, but I amassed a skillset that would serve me well (especially when it came to tailgating in The Grove at my Alma Mater, Ole Miss.)

What I love the most is that creativity begets creativity. My favorite thing to do when I’m with my mom or sister (which isn’t often enough since they both still call Mississippi home), is to work on an event and play “What If We.” As we talk it though, excitement builds and by the end of our chat, however long it is, we are always waayyyyy over the top—which, as you might have gathered, is just how I like it.
